El Corte Inglés Department Store has inaugurated its sixth Gourmet Experience right on Madrid's Milla de Oro (Golden Mile), at Serrano 52. This new space occupies two floors of the building, which can be reached by two panoramic lifts running up the facade, allowing customers to enjoy spectacular views of the Salamanca district.
In total, over 800 square metres are dedicated to the most select gourmet products, either to enjoy in store or to take away, savouring the best dishes and products that the current culinary scene has to offer. In addition to the sixth floor gourmet space, which has been open to the public since December 2014, the gastronomy offering extended to the seventh floor, where visitors can choose to dine in at the Gastro Bar, or select from the three diverse restaurants which boast a combined 7 Michelin Stars. StreetXo, by David Muñoz (3 Michelin star with Diverxo restaurant); Cascabel, by Roberto Ruiz (1 Michelin star); and Rocambolesc, by Jordi Roca (3 Michelin star with Can Roca Restaurant and worlds't best restaurant award 2014).
StreetXO combines the best of Asian food with touches of fusion for a unique gastronomic experience, basing its cuisine on the street food philosophy created by Chef David Muñoz. Working for two years in renowned London based restaurant Hakkasan and being awarded 3 Michelin Stars, Chef David’s street food is set to be a sell-out.
Authentic Mexican flavours using quality local produce and combining both tradition with modern technologies lies behind Salon Cascabel Antojeria. Chef Roberto Ruiz draws his inspiration from Mexican saloons in the 40’s which is reflected in the restaurants quirky yet sleek interior. When the sun goes down the ambience at Cascabel changes, different lighting, different music and even dishes are reserved exclusively for dinner. Cascabel provides a very diverse way of enjoying Mexican cuisine from a chef who was recently awarded a Michelin star.
A fantasy land resembling that of Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory is among the sweetest of offerings at the Gourmet Experience. Rocambolesc is an artisan ice cream parlour founded by Jordi Roca and his wife Alejandra Rivas. The idea of travelling the streets with his dessert trolley brought life to this space where diners can expect to see far more than just ice cream. A wide selection of pastries, handmade chocolates, sweets and coffee’s will be on offer to satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooth’s.
The sixth floor offers gourmet products to customers to sample and buy. Covering an area of 350 square metres, it encompasses a large wine section with the finest wines and champagnes, also including an uncorking service, as well as a huge gastrobar experience designed to showcase the best showcooking. As in all Gourmet Experience venues, customers can also sample and buy the most delicious and suggestive offerings on the market: cheese, preserves, chocolate, and food from around the world. The sixth-floor is also home to a permanent gift a la carte area, where customers can put together a bespoke gift, choosing their favourite products and how they would like them presented (tray, wooden box, wicker hamper...) combining elements as they please.
The architectural gem of this seventh floor is a 100 square metre terrace with spectacular views over Madrid's Golden Mile, heated with outdoor heaters.
