Bosch. The Centenary Exhibition

Bosch. The Centenary Exhibition

To mark the 5th centenary of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, The Prado Museum is organising what will be the exhibition of the year, sponsored by the BBVA Foundation. 65 works from the Madrid art gallery?s own collection and others from leading museums worldwide will offer a unique opportunity to find out more about this great artist.

The works on display include the main triptychs created by Bosch, such as The Garden of the Earthly Delights or The Adoration of the Magi, currently being restored, as well as the outstanding Triptych of the Temptations of St. Anthony on loan from the Antiga Art Museum in Lisbon. Other paintings come from the Albertina and Kunsthistorisches Museums, Vienna Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the National Gallery in Washington, the Louvre in Paris or the Polo Museale del Veneto in Venice, among others.

The exhibition will be divided into five sections according to themes and a sixth section will display his drawings. Of the selected works, 25 were painted by Bosch, 9 were made at his workshop and the rest are from other painters who illustrate the period.

As a complement, paintings, miniatures, drawings, wood-cuttings or engravings with burin, depicting some of the topics addressed by the painter, such as hell or sins, will also be included so that the visitor can understand the environment in which the paintings of this great Dutch artist came from.
