El gusto moderno. Art Déco París, 1910-1935

El Gusto Moderno. Art Decó de París, 1910-1935 exhibition at Fundación Juan March offers the Spanish public its first opportunity to enjoy art déco, a style that emerged in Paris in 1910. The exhibition defends not only its beauty but also the interest and cultural and artistic complexity of its unique modern style, whilst also questioning its absence in art history textbooks.

The art déco style emerged in Paris in around 1910 as a reaction against Art Nouveau. Its followers continued with the modern drive to create something new but at the same time they displayed an excellent capacity to assimilate a wide variety and range of sources and influences: Egypt, Ancient Greece, Africa, Mexico, Japan, China and the cutting-edge movements from the first ten years of the 20th Century.

The exhibition has close to 300 exhibits including paintings, sculptures, furniture, fashion, jewellery, perfumery, bindings, photographs, cinema, architecture, glass, ceramic, lacquer, silverwork, fabrics, drawings, maps, models, advertising and magazines, which are testimony to modern taste and the zeitgeist of a time: the 20s and 30s in Paris.
