Nikola Tesla, Yours is the Future. Espacio Fundación Telefónica

This fabulous exhibition introduces us to Nikola Tesla (Smiljan, 1856-New York, 1943). Tesla is "the genius who stole the light", as it was overshadowed by other scientists such as Edison and Marconi. Not only conceived the AC and radio, but it pioneered visionary technology for its time as robotics, aircraft-lift, remote control weapons, energy saving lamps, alternative energy and wireless transmission of electricity. After many years of neglect incomprehensible recently science and art have agreed to consecrate him as the true founder of modern technology.

The science and art define Tesla as the founder of modern technology; today it has become an icon of popular culture in a cross between reality and fiction. His inventions lightened our electrical civilization: Tesla pioneered robotics, vertical takeoff aircraft, remote control weapons, energy saving lamps, alternative energy and wireless transmission of electricity.

Today, Tesla has even become an icon of popular culture, present in video games, comics, literature, movies, songs, sets and thousands of web pages in a cross reference in which reality and fiction and oracular. Enter your name in Google can shed five million results.

But how could a man so prodigious finish relegated to the background or even completely disappeared from the scientific and cultural heritage of human beings? The most popular reason is that, during his years of greater lucidity "after many enemies at the time of its decline, jumped on him and got his name does not appear in the books of engineering earned."

The best known case is that of his confrontation with Thomas Edison, with whom he started working in 1884. Edison, who had a method of empirical work based on trial and error, never have a good relationship with Tesla, much more scientific and thoughtful in the way they work. The rivalry flourished immediately and resulted in what is popularly known as the War of the Currents, a dispute over the discovery and demonstrate Patent electricity known. Edison defended the current system while defending the Tesla AC system. The first did not hesitate to play dirty and toured the United States electrocuting animals (from dogs and cats to an elephant) to demonstrate the risks inherent in the proposal of his rival. Despite this smear campaign, the alternating current is over already imposed today is used in every household. Although Tesla won this battle, the prolific inventor did not get the recognition he enjoyed himself Edison, much more skilled from the business point of public relations. "Edison thought only inventions that could sell. If you could not turn into something profitable, leave him. Tesla was almost the opposite, he spoke to revolutionize the world, but did not show anything that would attract investors," said Commissioner .

"Tesla was sometimes his own worst enemy: he gave patents to Westinghouse, gave 51% of the present and future patent JP Morgan when he asked only 50% ... It is obvious that he lacked an entrepreneurial instinct would have him helped, "he adds. There were many other factors that contributed to the neglect of the inventor: his last big project-the world system for the transmission of electrical energy without Cables- failed, "and the losers are not very memorable"; not leave behind any company to keep his name alive -Edison left General Electric; -Edison disciples had not had Henry Ford, who devoted much effort, money and enthusiasm to keep alive the memory of his mentor, had no heirs ...
