Paul Strand. Finest prints

Paul Strand. Finest prints

The exhibition takes a chronological look at the six decades spanned by the career of the US photographer Paul Strand (New York, 1890 - Orgeval, France, 1976), considered to be one of the most important photographers of the 20th Century.

There will be over 200 photographs on loan from important museum and private collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It is structured into three major sections, which tell the story from the early efforts to establish photography as a key form of independent artistic expression up to his prolonged portraits of people and places that often took the form of printed books. There will also be a projection of the artist's first film, Manhattan, from 1921.

Paul Strand's career was characterised by a strong social motivation and political commitment, reflected in his constant drive to depict human conflict. The exhibition examines in detail this side of Strand's work, which the photographer understood as an essential part of his responsibility as an artist.
